Why TyphoonCopy?
Main Interface
Using TyphoonCopy
TyphoonCopy Settings
TyphoonCopy helps you copy multiple files and folders, with an easy to to use, yet powerful interface. TyphoonCopy includes features that allow you to specify multiple files and folder to be copied, along with wildcard matching patterns. Especially useful for copying numerous files of a particular type, or for creating a quick backup of only specific types of files.
The top part of the screen is where you specify the files to be copied and where you want them copied to. Below that is the Output window that shows the results of the copy command.
Files and Folders to Copy
This window is where you select files that you wished to be copied. You can select any combination of files and folders in this window.
Project File
In this field you can enter a name for the copy job you are doing. This is especially important if you plan to save the copy job for future use.
Results
This window displays the results of copies as well as copy previews, if selected.
Destination Folder
This window is where you can select the destination that you would like selected files or folders to be copied to.
Select Files to Copy
The window labeled Files and Folders to Copy is where you select the files and folders you want to copy. Selected items will be copied and unselected items will not be copied. If the box next to an item is EMPTY then NO sub-folders or files are selected. If the box is FILLED in then SOME sub-folders and files are selected. If the box is CHECKED then ALL sub-folders and files are selected.
Destination Folder
Use this window to select the location to which you would like selected files to be copied to. Click the New Folder button if you choose to create a new folder for a copy destination. Clicking the Browse button will open Windows Explorer to the location selected as the destination folder. Clicking the Empty… button will delete everything in the selected folder. This is a convenient tool if you wish to copy files into an already existing folder, but would like it to be empty.
Load…
Clicking the Load… button will load a previously saved Project File. This is helpful if you have a copy job that you do on a regular basis.
Save…
Selecting the Save… button from the main interface will save the current copy job as a Project File. This is especially helpful if you are doing a copy job that you think you will want to do again in the future.
Shortcut…
Clicking the Shortcut… button will create a shortcut for the current copy job. This is similar to saving a project file in that it preserves the current copy job for future use, except that rather than having to load the project file from the main interface, you will simply be able to double click the shortcut.
Selecting Shortcut… will open a dialogue asking what kind of a shortcut you would like to create. Selecting Auto will open briefly open the copy job, run it, and then close it. Selecting Run will open the copy job, run it, and then leave the interface open; good if you want to see the results of the copy. Selecting Load will open the copy job without running it, good if you want to preview the copy job or make changes before you change it.
Preview
Clicking the Preview button will post “results” in the window at the bottom of the interface without actually running the copy, a good tool to ensure copy settings are how you would like them.
Copy
This button runs the copy as it is currently set up. Results of the copy are posted in the results window at the bottom of the interface.
Log File…
TyphoonCopy saves results from the most recent copy jobs as notepad files. If you would like to view results from a previous copy job, select the Log File… button.
Command Line…
Selecting this button will open a dialogue with the command line prompt for the currently selected copy job. This is especially helpful in writing script.
Wildcards
Only items listed in the Inclusion Wildcards field will be copied. By default, there is an asterisk in the field, meaning everything that is selected in the Files and Folders to Copy window will be copied. If you wish to only copy a certain file or file type, it can be entered here. The Exclusion Wildcards fields will leave files that meet certain requirements out of the copy job, regardless if they are selected in the Files and Folders to Copy window. This is helpful if you wish to copy everything from a combination of folders but want to leave out a certain filetype.
Preserve Folder Structure
Selecting this will copy not only selected files, but their entire folder directory that they are embedded in. Helpful for keeping your organization methods consistent.
Only Copy Newer Files
If this box is checked, TyphoonCopy will look at the dates of files in the selected folders and will only copy files with more recent dates. This becomes especially relevant when running a saved project file that you find yourself running more than once.
Move Files Instead of Copy
This option is comparable to the Windows Cut function. Rather than copying files, they will be moved, removing them from their current location.
Ask Before Replacing
This option will simply display a reminder warning you before replacing copied files of the same name.
Only Copy Files That Changed
Selecting this option will only copy files that have been modified since the last time they were copied using the TyphoonCopy utility. This becomes especially relevant when running a saved project file that you find yourself running more than once.
