Using TyphoonUpload
The TyphoonUpload client is a Windows program that works with the TyphoonUpload web site for easy file delivery. You can right-click on a file within Windows and select recipients from a list. The file is uploaded to the TyphoonUpload server and an email is delivered to the recipient you select. Using the TyphoonUpload client you can easily send multiple files to multiple recipients. Configure the TyphoonUpload client with email addresses you want to send files to. There is also a facility for importing contact info from Outlook or a CVS file.
Get Pickup Page Link
A Pickup Link is a URL for an upload’s Delivery Page on the TyphoonUpload server. If you have already uploaded an item and want to get the URL for the Delivery Page you can get the Pickup Page Link. You can get the Pickup Page Link by right clicking a file in Windows Explorer and selecting Get Pickup Page Link from the TyphoonUpload right-click menu or by selecting the option in the Manage Uploads interface in the Manage Account area of the TyphoonTools website.
Get a Direct Link
A Direct Link is a URL that links directly to the upload. If the upload is a single file the Direct Link will contain the URL for that file on the TyphoonUpload server. If the upload contains more than one file the Direct Link will contain the URL for a zip of the files. You can get a Direct Link by right clicking a file in Windows Explorer and selecting Get Direct Link from the TyphoonUpload right-click menu or by selecting the option in the Manage Uploads interface in the Manage Account area of the TyphoonTools website.
Each instance of sending one or more files to one or more recipients is considered an upload. You can view and perform operations on your uploads via the Manage Uploads page when you are logged into the Manage Account area of the TyphoonTools website. Unregistered users cannot manage their uploads.
Once logged into the TyphoonTools Manage Account website click on the Mange Uploads link in the sidebar. Each upload you have made to the TyphoonUpload servers is displayed here. NOTE that an upload may include more than one file.
The Manage Uploads page allows you to view a list of uploaded items; view the disk space used on the server; go to the Download Page for an upload; view the file name(s) for each upload; view size, hits, and expiration date for each upload; view whether recipients have accepted delivery of an upload; delete uploaded items from the server; get a Pickup Link for an upload; get a Direct Link for an upload; send an upload to a new recipient.
Delete Selected Uploads
Check the box for the upload you want to delete and then select the Delete option. Each checked upload will be deleted from the TyphoonUpload server. NOTE that uploads will expire after an amount of time you specified at the time the files were uploaded.
To open the Manage Email Addresses interface, either click on the Manage button in TyphoonUpload’s main interface or select Manage Email Addresses… from the system tray icon’s right-click menu or select Manage Email Addresses… from TyphoonUpload’s Window’s integrated right-click menu by right clicking on a file in Windows Explorer.
When you installed the TyphoonUpload client program it may have asked you if you wanted to import email addresses from your Microsoft email prgram — whatever you have installed: Outlook, Outlook Express, or Microsoft Mail. If you clicked on OK to import email addresses you will see some already listed here. If you did not import email addresses the list will be blank as shown above.
Manage Email Addresses Dialogue
TyphoonUpload’s Manage Email Addresses Dialogue is used for managing a list of email addresses AND a list of Groups they may or may not be assigned to. There are separate facilities for adding a new email address, adding a new group, checking the box of recipients to send files to, selecting and removing an email address, selecting and removing a group, and importing email addresses from a Microsoft email program like Outlook.
Entering an email address into the Email Address field adds a recipient to the currently selected group. The Express Group recipients will appear when you right-click on a file using Windows for express file delivery.
Adding Groups
Groups make it easier to send files to a set of email addresses. An email address can be in one or more Groups. All email addresses are automatically in the group called Everyone. From the main dialogue click on the Mange button to bring up the dialogue to Manage Email Addresses. Clicking on the Add button allows you to create a new Group. When you create a new Group you are prompted to select any email addresses that you would like to include in that group by selecting the check box next to the individual addresses.
Creating and Managing Dropbox Pages
With TyphoonUpload you have the ability for other users to send files to you via a customized Dropbox page. The Dropbox and Pickup Pages can be hosted on the TyphoonUpload server or on your own web server. TyphoonUpload provides the server space for your files in either case.
You can add your company name to the Dropbox page, or add the custom javascript we provide to a page on your own web server. When you use our javascript on a web page you can customize it however you like, adding your logo, formatting, and text. The ease and reliability of the TyphoonUpload servers is still at work behind the scenes but is not visible to your customers. The javascript is designed for businesses or power users that want to display their own layout on web pages that allow your customers to send and receive files.
It helps to think of these pages from the perspective of the people who will be using it — your customers. The custom Dropbox is a page for your customers to send files to you. The custom Pickup Page is where your customers receive files from you.
Using a Dropbox Page
If you do not have a web server you can still have custom Dropbox and Pickup Pages hosted on the TyphoonUpload servers. You can customize these pages by entering your company name on the Dropbox and Pickup mangement pages. Your company name will then be displayed on your Dropbox and Pickup (delivery) pages but it will use the standard TyphoonUpload page format.
All of the file delivery convenience is there but it uses the standard Typhoon Upload delivery page logo and layout. There is a similar look to the custom Drop Box page.
First we will go through the procedure of creating custom Dropbox pages. Use the following instructions if you do not have a web server, but the most exciting way to utilize this technology is when you have your own web server and can use some of our code in a web page of your own design. If you want to skip ahead to see how that works and what it looks like click here.
Creating a custom Dropbox page without a web server
A custom Dropbox page is used by your customers to send files to you. Also, it is easier to direct them to this custom Drop Box page using than having them create their own TyphoonUpload account. There is a simple Dropbox Invite form on the management page just for this.
On the Dropbox Settings portion of the management page are some additional field to fill out. Enter your info in the Company Name field. Notice that there is am option to password protect the Drop Box. If you have selected to use a password then the user will have to enter that same password to gain access to you Drop Box page.
You may have already noticed that when you invite someone to use your custom Drop Box there is an optional check box to include the password. Check this box to include the password in the invite email that is sent. If you leave this unchecked the password will have to be communicated to the customer some other way. Including the password with the invite is convenient but not mandatory. Also know that if the customer does not have the password to your Drop Box page then he will not be able to send you files.
Creating a Custom Dropbox Page on your own web server
The most exciting way to utilize this technology is when you have your own web server so you can insert the javascript that we provide into a web page of your own design. You can make your pages as plain or as fancy as you like. Our format is no-frills by design so your that your style sheets (font face, color, size, etc) will affect how the forms are displayed.
The advantage to doing things this way is that a customer never has to leave your site. The URL of the page your customer visits to drop off or pickup files uses your domain name and not “typhoonupload.com” so the branding of the page is all yours, even though the Typhoon Upload servers are working behind the scenes to send and receive the files.
